1898 — Colorado State Home for Dependent and Neglected Children

Rose Kidd Beere, MD, who in 1895 became the first superintendent of the Colorado State Home for Dependent and Neglected Children, resigned and was succeeded on January 1, 1898, by H. Willard Cowan. The Home was at 3233 Vallejo Street in northwest Denver.

Because the US military would not accept women physicians, Rose Kidd Beere, MD, went to Manila, as a representative of the Colorado Springs Red Cross, as head of a team of seven nurses from California and Oregon (1898-1899). While in the Philippines, she did practice medicine as a physician.
