American Equal Rights Association
Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucy Stone — anti-slavery and women's suffrage activists — founded the American Equal Rights Association during a meeting in Boston in December 1866. Due to strategic differences between proponents of racial equality and gender equality, the two groups went their separate ways in 1869 and the Association was discontinued.
